The Government’s latest suggestion that mining may take place on public lands and in parks and reserves is alarming to some, but is it necessarily bad? Could mining be done sustainably? Could it lead to more sustainable use of minerals and/or improved technology and services in the future, or is it so environmentally catastrophic that it should not be considered at any cost?
